Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) for mammography.
What is CAD?
Computer–Aided Detection (CAD) is a sophisticated FDA-approved technology that helps radiologists identify characteristics that may be associated with various forms of cancer. By using iCAD patented algorithms to mark suspicious areas, CAD serves as a “second pair of eyes” and acts very much like a “spellchecker” to identify characteristics that may warrant a “Second Look” by the radiologist.

What is CAD based on?
CAD is based on medically-applicable research in the areas of artificial intelligence, enhanced image processing, pattern recognition, mathematical formulas and statistical computations.

What are the benefits of CAD in mammography?
The use of CAD as part of the mammography screening process adds a layer of quality assurance. By helping radiologists detect up to 68% of actionable missed cancers an average of 15 months earlier than screening mammography alone, our Second Look CAD systems enhance performance, improve confidence and reduce variability due to fatigue, distraction or workload. The early detection of breast cancer can save lives and often permits less costly and less invasive cancer treatment options than when detected at a later stage.

Does the use of CAD in mammography require additional patient procedures?
No, CAD as part of the mammography screening process does not require additional procedures for patients. Simply visit a facility equipped with a Second Look CAD system for your next mammogram.

Will my insurance pay for mammography CAD?
Medicare and most private insurance companies in the United States consider CAD reimbursable. If you are concerned about payment for this service, we recommend contacting your insurance company directly. Mid Michigan Radiology Associates total charge for Mammogram with CAD is less than the published total fees for the Mammogram alone at any other facility in the area .

MMRA adds Second Ultrasound Machine and Welcomes Sue Wilson
We are pleased to announce that ultrasonographer Sue Wilson has joined the ultrasound staff of our 211 Crapo Imaging Center and that we have added a second ultrasound machine in order to continue our commitment to provide timely, efficient, and technologically advanced service to our patients and referring clinicians.

Sue comes to us from CMCH with more then ten years of experience and will be working with sonographer, Kathy Cole. Both Sue and Kathy are certified ultrasound technologists by the ARDMS.

The new Siemens Sonoline G40 ultrasound machine is in addition to our existing Medison Sonace 8000 three-dimensional ultrasound and a Unextis Multilab NIT arterial unit. This expansion was necessary to meet increased demand from you, our referral base, and to support our new vascular ultrasound services.

During the past year we have increased the scope of ultrasound services to include ultrasound guided procedures such as PICC line placement, ultrasound guided laser varicose vein therapy, sclerotherapy and ultrasound guided biopsy. Our vascular lab now includes noninvasive arterial testing (NIT) for patients with peripheral vascular disease, evaluation for Raynauds, carotid doppler, renal doppler, venous services for evaluations and treatment of varicose veins, evaluation of deep venous thrombosis, vein mapping and dialysis fistula evaluation and therapy.

Our Imaging Center is the only site in Mid Michigan to offer 3D fetal ultrasound. We are also this area’s only provider of ultrasound guided endovascular laser varicose veins therapy. We continue our commitment to expand services for the convenience of you and your patients and appreciate your continued trust and referrals.

Enclosed is a sample list of procedures offered at our imaging center. In most cases we can schedule your patient’s exam the same or next business day. As always, feel free to contact us with questions about these and any other services.
